Catch Up

It's been a while since I've posted some Talbot weirdness.

Reagan: Sometimes you have to do dark, dark things to wash your pajamas.

Lillie: French sounds so smooth. Like a ballerina jumping out of your mouth.

Aiden: This is how a REAL man plays with a princess car.

Conversation with Lillie about knitting
Me: So you're going to KNIT a wallet?
Lillie: Of course I am. I'm mad with power. I can do whatever I want.

I wish I had any artistic talent at all. Some of these things just BEG to be illustrated.

Creepiest George

From Aiden's English assignment today, where he was told to fill in the blanks using adverbs to make the sentences more vivid:

"Curious George climbed shakily into the window of the house. Cautiously he ran toward the tempting bike. The man in the yellow hat called after him sleepily.
George didn't stop but climbed unwillingly on the bike. He waved sadly as he sped by. Slowly he ran into the hedge. George was not easily hurt. He was extremely sorry he was forced to be curious."

I've decided not to be concerned. Denial is always the best course of action, right?

The Monkeys Made a Thing

The Talbot kiddos are fans of the YouTuber Tobuscus, and they decided to remake one of his cartoons in real life. Check it out, and maybe subscribe to their channel. They plan on making more videos in the future.

They Think They're the Beaudelaires

Heard from my kids in the back of the car today: Aiden (13) speaking to Reagan (9), "If they find out you're a baby, things have gone horribly wrong "

Their Lunch Has the Power

Not even sure what my kids are doing with their lunches right now, but what I hear from the kitchen is this: Reagan- "I got a little of the juice!" Lillie- "What juice?" Aiden- "The juice with the power." Lillie- "What power?" Reagan- "The power of voodoo." I really love them a lot.

The Talbot Tribune

Reagan has been learning about newspapers for the past two weeks, and her final project was to get a newspaper and use clippings to show that she understands the different parts of a paper. When she was done gluing everything she needed to her posterboard, she and her siblings got a bit creative.

"Pisces: An unexpected change at work will cause anxiety. Feel threatened by what's going on."

"Cancer: Force unwanted change on someone you don't agree with."

"Say, would you Facebook?" "Would I!" "I'm a ton of friends!" "That sounds kind to me." "You go! See? Only tell me that!"

"Get out of your yard so hunters can find you!"

"Thinking of getting a new family."

Lillie Kills Us All

So Aiden just came in and noticed that Lillie had left the TV on. This prompted him to start ranting about how she "always" does this, so I said, "Yep. And then we all DIED." So he responded, "Well, we might! She leave the TV on, you guys have to pay a higher utility bill, we can't buy groceries, and WE STARVE TO DEATH, AND IT'S HER FAULT!"

Figurative Nursery Rhymes

Reagan, while reading a book of nursery rhymes, "You know, they never say Humpty Dumpty is an egg. I think it's probably figurative." 🤔 Good call, monkey!

You Get What You Asked For

Someone on an Army wife FB page today asked for some snarky ideas. Apparently there was a typo in an email her husband got from some big-wig in his unit. They are having a "family fun day" or something, and he asked that everyone "bring a desert" as their contribution. Not a dessert. A desert. So this woman was asking for ideas about what to bring.

Most people suggested some kind of desert-themed dessert. Cupcakes topped with crushed graham crackers and whatnot. Aiden, however, said, "Bring a jar of dirt. Maybe throw some rocks in there. He asked for a *desert* so that's what you should bring." That snark is strong with this one.

What...?

We are at the dentist. My kids are so excited. Who are they? Where did they come from? What happened here?

Octopus don't have fingers though...

After watching a video of an octopus escape a boat through a tiny hole, Reagan decided to narrate what was going on. "Guys, I gotta get out of here. I'm late for my mani-pedi with my friend Tommy!"

No Such Thing As Normal

While we were out and about today the kids were acting more goofy than usual. When I asked Aiden why on earth he was being so weird he said, "Hanging out with normal people wrecks my vibe." That explains a lot.

Try, Try in Rage

Aiden was struggling with his coding quiz today, most likely because his brain was already exhausted from his math assignment, so he went back and re-did it and got 100%. I told him I was proud of him for trying so hard, and his response was, "My perseverance is powered by anger." Whatever gets you through the day, little man.

Maybe We Should Give Up On Clothes

All three monkeys (plus me, to some extent) have been sick this week, which means a lot of time spent in pajamas. This morning I told Reagan that since she has been in the same pajamas for at least two days, she really needed to go get dressed. She came back out dressed ... in a different nightgown. One point to Monkey Three.

Caretaker

I ate something that didn't agree with me, so Lillie decided to take over. She tucked me into bed with a hot pack for my tummy and told me she would make sure the other two kids didn't burn the house down. What a responsible 10 year old.  ☺

A Duck!

I teasingly called Reagan an evil witch. She paused for a minute and thought, and then said, "First you need to see if I weigh the same as a duck."  #montypythonwins

Hot Chocolate Fixes Everything.

I told Lillie that I had a headache, and some hot chocolate would really help. She replied, "I'll go make some right now! It will fix you up... From how broken you are!" WTF, kid. I guess I'm not hiding it as well as I thought.

The Theology of a Three-Year-Old

I just remembered a conversation I had with my son when he was about three about his Creator. I asked him one day if he knew who made him and he replied, "Yep. The Bone-Guy made me. With tape and string." I've got some questions for that Bone Guy...
